CMS Student Council Donates to CMS Playground Project

On April 29th, Chadron Middle School's Student Council presented Mr. Dressel with a $1000 check for the CMS Playground project.  The student council raised the money over the course of the school year through concession sales at school dances and the annual candy gram sale that takes place over Valentine's Day.

CMS would like to thank the student council for their generous donation to their school and for all of the hard work that they put into making CMS a great school for their fellow students.

8 CMS Student Qualify for Nationals!


The state National History Day (N.H.D.) competition was held in Lincoln on Saturday, April 12th.   Zayne Jones, Joe Matt, Hunter Hawk, Kaci Waugh, Brooklyn Stack, Anabel Gardner, Sam Rischling and JashwaAlan Cummings all qualified for the national N.H.D. competition in Washington D.C., which will take place in June.  Brooklyn and Hunter took 1st place and the other six qualifiers took 2nd.

6th-8th Grade Summer Camp Opportunity

ACE CampNebraska’s NRDs are hosting the third annual Natural Resources Camp titled: Adventure Camp about the Environment (ACE) ACE is open to 6th-8th graders who have completed 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the 2013-2014 school year and want to learn more about natural resources and have an adventure at camp. The camp is structured around the six areas of Envirothon. The six areas campers will learn more about are: Aquatics, Forestry, Range and Grassland, Wildlife, Soils and Land, and Policy.

7th Grade Scholastics Team Wins Gering Quiz Bowl!


Congratulations to the 7th Grade Scholastics Team for taking first place at the Gering Quiz Bowl competition on Friday, April 4th.  The 8th grade team took 3rd place, missing the championship round by only ten-points.
Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding season!

Morning Marathon 5K Registration Form

The Morning Marathon 5K fun run/walk will take place on May 17th.  Below is a link to the registration form.  The entry fee, which includes a t-shirt is $5 and the run buddy entry fee, including a t-shirt is $20.  Please return the completed form to Mrs. Rischling or Ms. Marshall by April 25th.

Americanism Essay Contest Winners

Below is a photo of the American Legion Auxiliary Essay contest winners.  7th and 8th grade students were asked to write an essay on the following prompt:  "How can I show my pride in being an American?"  Abby Hyer and MiaKayla Koerber tied for 2nd place.  Evelyn McEwen was this year's winner.

NLPS Film Screening, Meet and Greet


Nebraska Loves Public Schools will host a meet and greet at the Burkhiser Technology Complex, Room 208A on the Chadron State College Campus from 5:30-6:30 PM.

Meet the crew behind Nebraska Loves Public Schools and watch their latest film, "Ready for Kindergarten."  After the film, stick around and learn more about their trip to Chadron, their past films, and their upcoming stories.

CMS 7th and 8th Grade Science Night

On March 25th, CMS hosted a 7th and 8th grade science night, which showcased 8th grade science projects and our 7th grade Prezis.  The event was great success!  Thank you to all of the parents that joined us in supporting the hard work that our students put into their projects. 

Regional History Bee

For the first time, four CMS students qualified for the Regional History Bee.  There were forty-eight students from four states.  Each student participated in three rounds.  Congratulations to Sam, Jake, Claire, and Nick.

The team competed in Chadron on March 19 and in Banner County March 21.

CMS Quiz Bowl

On March 19th, Chadron Middle School hosted it's 3rd annual Quiz Bowl competition.  Schools that were in attendance included: Chadron, Sidney, Bridgeport, Hay Springs, Morrill, Gordon/Rushville, Gering, and Mitchell.  Participating students engaged in three rounds of academic competition that tested their knowledge in math, history, geography, current events, science, fine arts, English, and sports.

CMS Spring Testing Testing Schedule

It's testing season and at the middle school level that means standardized assessments in Reading, Math, English, and Science.  Over the next 7-weeks, students at CMS will take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAPs) tests in Reading, Math, Language Usage, and Science as well as NeSA tests in Reading, Math, and Science.  Please take a moment to review the testing schedule and note which days your student(s) will be testing.

Washington D.C. T-Shirt Contest

The Washington D.C. group is having a contest to design the t-shirt the group will get for the trip.  If you are interested in designing a t-shirt for the Washington D.C. group, please turn in a design to the CMS office by April 21st.  The group will then vote on their favorite design and have t-shirts made!

Morning Marathon Information

Students, staff, parents and friends are invited to join the fun as we begin the 4th  Annual Morning Marathon Club!  We will meet before school, Mondays through Fridays on the high school track to walk/jog/run supervised ¼ mile laps.  Our first day will be March 17, 2014.  We will NOT meet March 19, April 18 & 21, due to no school on those days.  Mark your calendars for our finale with the Panhandle Run for Youth on May 17, 2014! Miles will be collected individually for every participant.  The first day each student participates, s/he will receive a MMC wristband.

3rd Quarter CMS Perfect Attendance & Cardinal Effort Awards


The 3rd quarter ended on March 12th and CMS students that had perfect attendance and displayed outstanding effort were recognized at the end of the quarter assembly.  Congratulations to these students and to all of the students that worked hard during the 3rd quarter.
