Friday-Science Day!
The students had an exciting Friday working on Physical and Chemical Changes. Physical Change doesn't form a new substance. Chemical Change forms a new substance. We learned a lot with these hands on activities.
New School Zone Signs
Signs for the newly designated school zones are now installed and speed limits will be enforced. These school zones are intended to provide a one block safety buffer around campuses. Drivers are expected to adhere to a 15 mph speed limit from 7a-5p on school days within these zones.

Chemical Reactions
We have been learning about chemical/physical change. Today we did a chemical change by mixing baking soda/water to create a secret message. We waited 10 minutes for it to dry and rubbed over our secret message with blackberries. The chemical reaction that occurred was revealing the secret message since a new substance was formed.

Celebrating Different Cultures
On January 14th, Ms. Schaack’s Class celebrated the different cultures inside their classroom. During Social Studies, students had been learning how different people come from different cultures. Ms. Schaack’s class then had a cultural tasting to celebrate. Students brought different foods from their culture. Some of the items students brought were from Germany, Italy, Mexico, and a Norwegian dish.

Today we celebrated
Today we celebrated National Popcorn Day with a science experiment. My students observed as the popcorn kernel heated over a candle and eventually got to the correct temperature to pop into popcorn. We watched a few videos on how popcorn is made and facts about popcorn while eating some popcorn for ourselves.
