CHS Graduation this Saturday!
By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 05/08/2013 01:42 PM(Chadron)-Chadron High School will hold graduation ceremonies for the senior class of 2013 on Saturday morning, beginning at 10 am in the High School gymnasium. Many family and friends will be in attendance. However, there are some people who may not be able to make it to the ceremony. Fortunately, CHS Principal Jerry Mack announced there will be an accommodation for those who cannot attend. Space Ambassadors are among us!
Congratulations to Deedra Grant, Kaci Swinney and Gary Hoagland for being selected as as an inaugural Nebraska Education Space Ambassadors (NESA) to attend training at Kennedy Space Center in July 2013.
Transition to Middle School
4th grade student have been preparing all year for middle school. We took "The Tour" this week to relieve some anxiety that comes with going to a new school. Students met with the guidance counselor and received a copy of their schedule. An orientation is scheduled for the fall. We saw were the classrooms will be next. We met Mrs. Schommer (secretary) and learned where the teacher lounge and nurse's office are located. We are excited to be going to a new school next year!
Nebraska Days!
As part of our Nebraska Studies in 4th grade, we will be hosting a Nebraska Days Celebration on May 16th. Students have been studying Nebraska History all year long. Each student has selected a famous Nebraskan to study and will dress up and give a speech about their life and accomplishment Students will sing songs and dance for the audience. The will also display additional projects they have completed. Invitations will be sent home soon but, all friends and family are welcome to attend. Celebrations will be held in the gym at the following times:

3rd grade students dress up for their visit to the Dawes County Museum. Student's enjoy seeing what life was like for students in the early 1900's.
4th Grade Transition to Middle School
Student Council members visited the 4th grade classrooms this week.
They answered questions about 5th grade at Chadron Middle School. Student Council members talked about open campus and passing periods. They explained that 5th grade students do not have to dress out for physical education.

Parent Teacher Conference Survey Results are in
In making plans for next year's Parent Teacher Conferences, we surveyed parents to see if they wanted to make any changes. The results were:
33 Reamin the same
26 Change conferences to one full day
We found that there was not an overwhelming majority on either side. As of now we will plan to keep PTC's the same as in the past. Thank you for participating in our survey.
GNT waterwise and tree planting efforts at Chadron
Here is an update on what our Chadron GNT group is working on for 2013 - call if questions or comments, thanks! Lucinda 308-430-4186 Spring and Fall, 2013 Chadron Community Hospital Memorial Garden Volunteers, hospital staff, and Girl Scout Gold Award candidates will install poured permeable pavement and plant trees and shrubs with drip irrigation and mulch. Scouts have fund-raised $4800 toward this project; the GNT group intends to support the Scouts and their project advisor to accomplish their goal of making the hospital landscape water-wise. 3rd Grade meets reading goal!
The 3rd grade staff and students enjoyed a picnic today and other fun activities to coincide with reaching one of their reading goals. They had a sack lunch in the park and drew for free books in the afternoon. Thank you for helping us reach our goals in reading this year.
